Zmira Lapidot

Sculptress
Zmira Lapidot was born in 1945 in Baghdad. Her family arrived in pre-State
Israel and Zmira grew up in Jerusalem. She raised her own family, however,
on Kibbutz Gesher HaZiv in the Western Galilee, where she still lives today.
Zmira’s studio, a 5-minute walk from her kibbutz-style house, is a large,
airy barn-like structure — with a raku
oven just out the door,
ready for firing.

Lapidot is a graduate of Haifa University
and studied painting and ceramics in Tel Aviv and New York.

Zmira’s environmental sculptures are
monumental in size — figures range from 2 to 3 meters in height. With their
earthy yet spiritual qualities, these larger-than-lifesize figures clearly
have roots in Canaanite and Mesopotamian sources.

Lapidot’s
ceramic sculptures are displayed at HaGaleria HaKtana in Old Jaffa, in the
Nahariya Municipal Museum, the City Hall of Acco, in the Bnai Zion Medical
Center in Haifa, and in private homes.
